Filmmaker
Franco Giraldi [without his common Frank Garfield alias] began as an assistant
director to Sergio Leone (for FISTFUL
OF DOLLARS). He then teamed with notable scripter/director Fernando
Di Leo to write this quirky Spaghetti Western.
Hunt
Powers plays Tom Cooper, a renowned government special agent, who is now
tapped to solve the mystery of Snake Valley. Just after the Civil War,
a regiment of 130 Union sharp-shooting solders disappeared without a trace
outside of that town in New Mexico. The United States government receives
a ransom note a year later. The kidnappers are demanding a million dollars
in gold or they threaten to slaughter the soldiers. Disguised as a doctor,
agent Cooper goes to Snake Valley to investigate.
For
genre fans, this is a significant film underscored by the starring role
of gypsy Soledad Miranda. She later became the on-screen obsession of
cult director Jess Franco, starring in his films VAMPYROS
LESBOS, COUNT
DRACULA, SHE
KILLED IN ECSTASY (MRS. HYDE) and EUGENIE
DE SADE, before meeting death in a car accident at age 27 in 1971.
For other pre-Franco films starring Soledad, see SOUND

STUDIO P2 and BEACH
